Herefordshire

BikeRight! are the cycle training partner for Herefordshire Council and provide Bikeability training in the county’s schools, as well as holiday cycling courses for children. We also offer adult cycle skills sessions exclusively for Herefordshire residents and run Dr Bike sessions throughout the year. All courses are funded by Herefordshire Council.

Bikeability

Schools in Herefordshire can request free Bikeability training. To enquire about or book training in your school, please contact us.

We offer Level 1 and 2 Bikeability training to primary schools (predominantly for year 5 & 6 children) as well as level 3 training to secondary schools.

Bikeability Levels

Level 1 is designed to give your child control over his / her bike and takes place in groups in a space away from traffic such as a playground or closed car park.

Level 2 will ensure your child is prepared for short journeys such as cycling to school. Training takes place in small groups on quiet, local streets, giving trainees a real cycling experience.

Level 3  is recommended for older children and adults. Trainees are equipped with skills needed for more challenging roads and traffic situations. Route planning is also covered, making this ideal for getting advice on and then practicing a school or work commute.

Herefordshire Council also offer a range of free cycle activities for residents including:

Children's Holiday & Weekend sessions

We run Balance bike, Learn to Ride, Cycle Skills & Scooter skills sessions during the school holidays and occasionally at weekends. See the table below for any upcoming course dates and locations. We also run Bikeability level 2 & 3 sessions during the school holidays for any children who missed out at school.

Dr Bike and Bike Security Marking Events

At Dr Bike Sessions, experienced cyclists and mechanics will check everything on your bike from wheels, brakes and gears to tyre pressure, lights and pedals. By the end, your bike will feel loved and cared for. There's no need to book, just turn up on the day with your bike. Any minor adjustments we can make to the bike we do there and then. Anything we can't fix on site, we will let you know exactly what needs doing and a rough guide to what it should cost at a bike shop. All our mechanics are friendly and approachable and have a wealth of cycling knowledge so feel free to ask them about cycle training, routes and any other cycling questions!

We will also offer free bike security marking as part of the sessions using tamper proof stickers. Once you have this sticker on your bike, it can then be added to the Bike Register database to reduce theft and help reunite you with your bike if anything does ever happen! Please see the table below for upcoming Dr Bike sessions.

Led Rides for Women & Families

All are welcome on our led rides, even those who haven't ridden a bike for a little while. All rides are free and led by our friendly team of ride leaders. The rides will be at a gentle pace on mostly traffic free routes in the city. It will be a sociable event, enabling riders to take exercise, meet others and discover the local area by bike. Rides will start and finish at the tennis courts on Bishops Meadow in Hereford. Please see the list of upcoming rides below and sign up beforehand using the booking form.
