Emergency First Aid at Work & Emergency Paediatric First Aid


This is a HSE Compliant combined 1-day Emergency First Aid  & Emergency Paediatric First Aid course. The certificate is valid for both child and adult first aid.
Duration – 6hrs (Individual/group, theory & practical learning activities).
This course provides foundation knowledge and practical skills for first aiders. It provides candidates with confidence and knowledge to deal with first aid occurrences involving, babies, children, and adults. It is compliant with Health and Safety (First Aid) 1981 regulations.
Who this course is for?
No prior first aid experience is needed. It is designed for first aiders in smaller, low-risk working environments including businesses, schools, clubs & activity / sport leadership etc.
(This course is suitable for the security industry door supervisor SIA first aid course requirement from April 2021)
Candidates should have a positive attitude, be responsible, have an aptitude to help, be able to think clearly in times of need, be willing and able to learn new skills, be physically able to deal with first aid situations and have good communication skills.
What the course will cover:
•    Decision making – dynamic assessment of situation and act safely and promptly
•    First Aid provision – legalities, roles and responsibilities
•    Assessing a situation/incident &  knowing when to call for help
•    Reporting of incidents
•    Managing first aid incidents/emergencies
•    Communication and casualty care
•    Primary Survey
•    Minimising cross contamination
•    Unresponsive casualty
•    Resuscitation (paediatric & adult)
•    Anaphylactic shock
•    Seizures 
•    Choking (paediatric & adult)
•    Unconsciousness
•    Bleeding (major and minor)
•    Broken bones
•    Burns & scalds
•    Asthma
•    Shock
•    Defibrillator prompts and how to respond (paediatric & adult)
(Syllabus required under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981)
Assessment
An assessment is used to determine the candidates competency. It will involve practical/oral questions and a short multiple choice paper.  The candidate must attend all 6hrs of the course and reach a suitable level of competency to be awarded a certificate. This qualification lasts for 3 years.
Course ‘Housekeeping’
All candidates will receive a course book and a certificate on completion. The course involves scenario-based role play activities so candidates should dress appropriately as they will need to demonstrate practical first aid skills on the floor. Please advise in advance of any movement/bending problems so we adapt planned activities. But please be aware that candidates should be physically able to participate, as non-participation may prevent candidates from being awarded a pass.
