FORS and JAUPT approved courses meeting the CLOCS standard

FORS approved Safe Urban Driving courses for LGV and PCV drivers

Our Safe Urban Driving course is designed for professional LGV and PCV drivers (and anyone who drives as part of their job) and is delivered by trainers approved to provide periodic training.

The Aim of the course is to make drivers aware of the risks of the road in relation to vulnerable road users and to be able to assess emergency situations to help avoid accidents.

The course also offers the opportunity to gain practical experience of cycling on the roads accompanied by BikeRight! qualified National Standards cycling instructors.

Further objectives for trainees attending this course are to define who vulnerable road users are when assessing risk, to gain information about road accident statistics involving LGV/PCV and vulnerable road users and to raise awareness of the risks to cyclists and how to assess a situation to reduce risk.

BikeRight! is a Joint Approvals Unit for Periodic Training (JAUPT) approved training centre - AC01580. The course can contribute 7 hours towards the training for drivers who are required to undertake DriverCPC.  BikeRight! are an approved centre for the delivery of DriverCPC. Our courses are FORS Approved, meet the CLOCS standard and requirements of managing Work Related Road Risk (WRRR). We will do the DriverCPC upload to the DSA and FORS websites for the payment of the upload fee, currently £8.75.

During March 2018, Gaskell Waste Services' drivers attended our courses, read what they have to say about the training

Why cyclists sometimes ride in the middle of the road

Blaine Walsh of and Michael Frearson of The Association of Bikeability Schemes share their thoughts why cyclists sometimes ride in the middle of the road, on how "right of way" doesn't exist, and how driving instructors have a vital role to play in teaching the next generation of drivers that everybody has a right to use roads, not just motorists.
