Mentor Training

Our Mentoring course lasts for 1 day and will enable an organisation to ensure they are delivering to the National Standards internally using their own mentors. We deliver courses at our Manchester base or can provide training for groups anywhere across the UK. All participants must be fully accredited National Standards instructors

The mentoring course is mainly classroom based initially to look into the most effective way to mentor trainers in accordance with the national standards and report those findings. There will be a small practical element to the course to put the skills learnt into practice within a training environment

Who is the course Suitable for?

Any organization that is currently delivering the National Standards or Bikeabilty schemes. It can be used to train new mentors or to ensure existing mentors up to date with current practice.

CPD Update course

The CPD / Update course has been designed as an update and refresher to current national standard instructors. This course can be used by an organisation to update staff on current and best practice for the national standards.

The course is classroom and practical based and is covered over a day. Trainees will have the opportunity to interact with the national standard and the most effective teaching methods to deliver.

Ride Leader course

Good leaders develop through a never ending process of self-study, education, training, and experience. The aim of the is course is to equip participants with the skills to lead and supervise cycle rides, on and off road, and to encourage cycling as a sustainable healthy activity in their local communities.

The course is a 1 day course and on completion of the participants will be able to organise and lead cycle rides.

  • Risk Assessments
  • Pre ride information for clients
  • Preparing yourself for the ride
  • Bicycle check and fitting helmets
  • Leader positioning during ride
  • Riding techniques
  • Basic bike maintenance
  • Dealing with accidents/incidents

Moving Groups

The moving groups course is designed to work alongside National Standard training. Moving groups safely is an effective way of getting a group of trainees form base to the area you wish to begin training and can be a vital tool if the training area is a considerable distance away.

The course is mainly practical although there will be some theory to introduce best practices for moving a group. Trainees will have an opportunity to pick up new skills and them use them to move a group as part of the course.

Course content

  • Why we snake.
  • Order of the group.
  • Group management, keeping group together and rules, managing group on the move
  • Role of the front instructor.
  • Role of the rear instructor.
  • How the two instructors communicate to the group and      themselves.
  • Positioning of rear instructor on all aspects of snake. e.g., give way, right turns.

Who is the course Suitable for?

For National Standard instructors, currently teaching cycle training or recently qualified.

Groups or individuals have the choice of either travelling to Manchester for training at our purpose built training centre or allowing us to deliver our instructor courses at a suitable location, anywhere in the UK.
