The CARBON CYCLE

The CARBON CYCLE is an initiative focused on reducing CO2 emissions through increasing the number of journeys conducted by bicycle within Manchester.

To achieve this BikeRight! in partnership with Manchester City Council, will support local employers every step of the way to help them to get their workforce cycling.

How will we do it?

Through no cost to organisations, our Urban Cycling Development Officer will deliver around 16 hours of consultancy per company.

This will include:

  • A presentation to senior management exploring the rationality behind transport modal choice
  • A review of workforce transport behaviour
  • A workforce presentation – ‘Making the right choice’
  • An exciting road show with tryout bikes ranging from folding Bromptons to electric bikes
  • Maintenance tuition
  • On-road cycle training for up to 12 people per company

Monitoring for success

People receiving cycle training will then be given a cycle computer (rrp £30) or lent a GPS device in order to monitor their riding over the following months through the CARBON CYCLE social web site. This will provide participants with continued support, and the chance to see personal and company performance in terms distance ridden, frequency, carbon emissions prevented and calories burnt.
