Working in tandem with Investors In People

Despite difficult trading conditions, the credit crunch and some pretty dire weather, business at cycle training organisation BikeRight! is still riding high.

The company has just been awarded Investors In People status for the first time. The culmination of a year-long restructure, a rebranding exercise and renewed focus on business development, the IIP award has been well received by the workforce of cycling instructors and the management team.

“This is fantastic news for everyone, and it just shows how lots of little changes in many places can have a hugely positive impact on a business. The most recent example of this is our award of the Bolton Bikeability contract last month” said MD, Liz Clarke.

“We have channelled a lot of investment into the development of skills, both in the operational base of the company and at the management level. Feedback from the IIP assessor indicated that this along with improvements in communication, marketing, mentoring and induction processes has seen real improvements in culture” Liz added.

Corinne Wainwright, IIP assessor said, “There is a positive people focused culture across the organisation with significant support from managers and peers. This has ensured that the workforce have a strong commitment to the organisation and feel that BikeRight! is an excellent employer.”

“There is a clear proposition here that reflects the overall mission of the business. People are passionate about delivering against this and can clearly articulate what BikeRight! stands for.” added Corinne.

BikeRight! have a goal to make cycling viable, safer and better for as many people as possible. This is realised in all of the companies services, from Bikeability for kids to adult cycle training, from instructor training to maintenance courses, commuter cycling solutions to event management and consultancy.

IIP’s vision is to increase productivity of the UK economy by improving the way in which organisations manage and develop their people, leading to business improvement and better public services.

Both BikeRight! and IIP are committed to these two statements and committed to working together over the longer-term - the perfect synergy of drive and direction, just like riding a tandem!
