11,000 children get on their bikes
The 2008/09 school year saw 11,000 children from years 5, 6 and 7 given Bikeability training by local company BikeRight!
“We delivered 1074 courses and it’s a privilege working with the kids, we get a real buzz watching them have fun whist learning some vital skills in riding on busy roads”, commented BikeRight! senior instructor Colin Unsworth.
“Feedback from the pupils and schools has been excellent which demonstrates that our commitment to best practice, continual professional development and instructor mentoring is paying off”, he added.
BikeRight! MD Liz Clarke also added: “We invest a lot of time and money in to our instructor programmes to make sure that the schools and their pupils receive the very best training. Our instructors are monitored by spot checks and receive regular updates on health, safety and other factors that may impact on our training”.
Bikeability, which is the cycling proficiency for the 21st Century, is funded by the Department for Transport, Cycling England and councils around the Greater Manchester area such as Bolton, Trafford, Manchester, Salford, Tameside and Stockport. BikeRight! also run training in Warrington, Chester and Cornwall and it’s available for adults as well as children.
