If you're unemployed, work part time or on zero hours contract with a passion for cycling and live in Liverpool, Sefton, Knowsley, St Helens, Wirral & Halton then we have some exciting opportunities for training to get you work ready.

Cycle Instructor Training -  National Standard Cycle Instructor

An assessment day and if successful followed by a 4 day course and a week of practical delivery and interview for ongoing work.

All applicants must be able to cycle, and will be assessed on their cycling ability during the course. The initial 5 day course is a mixture of classroom-based learning and practical activities, to practise and show competence in teaching each of the 3 levels of the National Cycle Training Standards.Assessment is carried out on a continuous basis. Participants who successfully complete this course will receive a provisional pass towards full accreditation. Candidates will be interviewed to establish their suitability to become a freelance Cycle Instructor for BikeRight!  Over the following months they will gain practical teaching experience and a post-course assessment to become a fully qualified National Standard Cycle Instructor.

  • Course times: 9.00am – 4.30pm Monday to Friday. 100% course attendance is essential.
  • There are places for 36 trainees: 12 trainees on each course running in September, February and April.

Cycle Mechanic Training - City and Guilds Level 2 Cycle Mechanic

Assessment day and if successful followed by a two-week full-time course

This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast-growing industry. We are offering a two week full time City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate in Cycle Mechanics course from our state-of-the-art workshop in Kirkdale, Liverpool. Trainees must be familiar with bike maintenance and able to complete written work. 

City& Guilds Level 2 is a respected cycle maintenance qualification, equivalent to GCSE. The syllabus covers everything that a cycle mechanic would need to know if working in a busy, modern bike workshop:

This ten-day course provides a qualification leading to several employment pathways:

  • Bike shop
  • Self-employed mobile mechanic
  • Bike hire operation such as Citybike,Bike and Go, Southport Cycle Hire
  • Bike recycling scheme
  • Event support technician

There are 12 places on courses in October and February.

Course times: 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday. 100% course attendance is essential.
You must be familiar with bike maintenance and attend a pre-course assessment day at BikeRight!’s Workshop in Kirkdale, Liverpool.

Cycle for work training - National Standard for Cycle Training Level 2/3

3 days of Freewheeling Extra training for cycle delivery agents.

Work within the ‘gig’ economy as opposed to permanent jobs, is snowballing, and opportunities to become cycle delivery agents are rapidly increasing. People who want to work for Deliveroo, UberEATS and similar companies rarely have previous training.  Through this course trainees will gain a Certificate in National Standard Cycling. It will not only improve individuals’ safety at work but also help their chances of securing work as a bike courier. 

3 days of training to increase the delivery riders’ safety and ability,involving: 

  • National Standard Cycling Level 2/3 –cycling in busy traffic environments
  • Cycle maintenance – skills to keep the bike on the road
  • Route-finding and journey planning –best ways to get from job to job 

This programme could be linked with Merseytravel’s Bike for Work scheme for eligible jobseekers who gain employment. 

Three training programmes for up to 12 trainees per course. will take place on:

12th to 14th December 2017
6th to 8th February 2017
17th to 19th April 2018

Course times: 9.30am – 4.30pm Tuesday to Thursday. 100% course attendance is essential.

Eligibility criteria

To be part of the programme you must be over 18, registered unemployed, working 16 hours or less per week or on a zero-hours contract.

Training is delivered by fully accredited instructors, courses are available over the next twelve months. Courses are based at our Kirkdale training Centre
