Advanced gearing and bottom brackets course

Keep the wheels in motion on this hands-on advanced bicycle transmission module, covering the dirty, greasy moving parts that can make cycling difficult if they’re not properly maintained. This course includes:

• Chain removal and refitting - how to correctly remove, size and replace your chain using a chain rivet extractor and quick link.
• Cassette/freewheel removal and refitting - fit a new cassette (or freewheel) of a suitable ratio and number of gears - we’ll look at 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 speed variants.
• Chainset removal – we’ll teach you how to correctly remove and re-fit a chainset from its bottom bracket and how to ensure it’s not damaged in the process.
• Chainring removal and refitting - change chainrings when worn or damaged and explain how to match them to the transmission system of your bike.
• We’ll discuss and identify bottom bracket standards, fitting tools and assembly compounds as well as demonstrating removal and installation of a standard threaded bottom bracket.
