This course is designed for those who want to know more than the basics and is especially good for mountain bikers who need to maintain their bikes on a more regular basis due to severe off-road riding conditions.

On the day you will cover the following topics:

  • Chains – split and rejoin, replace, check for wear and how to clean and maintain and which ones to buy (7, 8 or 9speed)
  • Cassettes – how to remove and replace a cassette and which ones to buy (7, 8 or 9speed)
  • Chainsets and chainrings – inspection for wear and learn about different types of bottom brackets
  • Rear derailleur – removal, functionality, adjustment inc cables and replacement of jocky wheel
  • Front derailleur – set up, adjustment and positioning on frame
  • Headsets – how to strip down, clean, replace bearings and rebuild
  • Wheel bearings – How to replace or adjust Shimano hub bearings
  • Brake pads – removal and replacement (v-brake and generic hydraulic)
  • Tools – what you need in your tool box and out on the trail
  • Adjusting suspension sag and bike fit advice

We will also talk about cleaning and lubrication of bikes, making small adjustments to adapt bikes for a perfect fit and wider maintenance and cycling issues – plus whatever comes up on the day over a brew!

Course runs from 9am (please aim to arrive by 8.45am) 
to 5pm at our workshop in Manchester
