Department for Transport - Instructor Training Organisation (ITO)

As part of the Department for Transport's development of cycle training and instructor provision for Bikeability schemes a new accreditation scheme has been implemented.

Organisations that were previously ITPs (the old system of accreditation by Cycling England) have been reassessed and successful ones given ITO status.

All cycle instructors who deliver Bikeability will need to register with an ITO, and all scheme operators will need to ensure that the instructors they use belong to an Instructor Training Organisation from now on.  On joining an ITO instructors will have to make a commitment to annual CPD training as this is a prerequisite of the ITO scheme to ensure consistency and quality - there will be a charge for this training.

Anyone wishing to become a National Standards Instructor Trainer, Instructor or Assistant Instructor will have to attend a training course run by a recognised ITO such as BikeRight!
