Merseyside Bikeability contract goes to BikeRight!
Leading cycle training organisation BikeRight! has just been awarded a £1.2million Bikeability contract to deliver child cycle training across Merseyside. This is the first major Bikeability contract to be awarded since the demise of Cycling England, which closed its doors at the end of March.
Bikeability in Merseyside is run through Merseyside Transport Partnership’s (MTP) TravelWise campaign. The three year contract will ensure that schools can continue to offer on-road cycle training to tens of thousands of Year 5 and 6 pupils.

Commenting on the announcement, Liz Clarke, MD said: “Fantastic news for us, it’s a bit like going back to my roots as my mother grew up in Bootle, and played in the Liverpool Philharmonic for a while. We are really looking forward to working with the MTP partners on the Bikeability contract as well as a number of other cycling initiatives across Merseyside.”
BikeRight! is proposing to open an office in the area and is employing local instructors to deliver the training. The company hopes to continue to offer maintenance and adult cycle training which are popular in Merseyside. It also wants to develop other cycling related services in line with those offered from its Manchester base, such as, mountain biking skills and commuter road shows.
Training in schools is due to start on Monday 20th June and BikeRight! aim to accommodate as many sessions as possible in the lead up to the summer holidays.
