Case study - Northampton Borough Council

Situation

Some Local Authorities prefer to train individuals as National Standard instructors, giving them the flexibility to deliver their own cycle training to local schools instead of outsourcing Bikeability sessions.

Our client, Northampton Borough Council, needed 4 of their recently employed cycle trainers to become National Standards accredited cycle instructors. The road safety manager at Northampton Borough Council contacted us, we have delivered courses to them previously.

Our solution

We provided a 4 - day course on location in Northampton. We aimed to ensure that all 4 participants were provisionally accredited National Standards cycle trainers by the end of the training.

Within a further 6 month’s all the trainees would be fully accredited, having been post course assessed.

The course itself consists of a mix of practical and theory sessions. It covers the delivery of the National Standards of cycle training at levels 1, 2 and 3. It has modules within it that cover effective teaching, risk assessments, child protection, helmet checks, safe cycle checks and maintenance.

Benefits

• Becoming a provisionally accredited National Standards cycle trainer

• Assured levels of quality in training delivery
